Mechanical Lead
Job description
THE ROLE
You will lead mechanical engineering development for advanced precision systems including semiconductor capital equipment, wafer inspection tools, and analytical instrumentation. You are responsible for the complete mechanical design lifecycle from concept through manufacturing, working on ultra-high precision systems that operate at nanometer tolerances in cleanroom environments. You will drive mechanical architecture decisions for complex multi-axis motion systems, vacuum chambers, and precision positioning stages while leading a team of mechanical engineers across multiple time zones. Your designs directly enable the semiconductor industry's push toward smaller process nodes and more advanced chip manufacturing capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead mechanical design and analysis for precision motion systems, vacuum chambers, and ultra-stable structural frameworks
• Drive design reviews, FMEA sessions, and tolerance stack-up analysis for nanometer-precision assemblies
• Manage mechanical engineering teams in Pune, working together with teams in The Netherlands and Singapore
• Define mechanical architecture for multi-million-dollar semiconductor capital equipment projects
• Coordinate with manufacturing teams on DFM guidelines and assembly process validation
• Interface with suppliers for critical mechanical components including linear motors, air bearings, and granite structures
• Deliver mechanical engineering deliverables according to V-model development processes
Job requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Must-have
• Master's degree in mechanical engineering with 15+ years in precision mechanical design, of which at least 8 years within the Semiconductor industry
• Proven leadership experience managing mechanical engineering teams of 5+ engineers
• Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA V5/V6 for complex assembly design
• Experience with ultra-precision mechanical systems achieving sub-micron repeatability • Knowledge of cleanroom-compatible materials, and particle contamination control
• Finite element analysis expertise using ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools
• Experience with semiconductor equipment, analytical instruments, or precision manufacturing systems
Nice to have
• Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing methodologies
• Understanding of thermal management in precision equipment including temperature stability requirements
• Experience with motion control systems including linear motors, encoders, and feedback systems
• Project management certification (PMP, Agile, or equivalent)
